As much as I hate to admit it, I can’t always be my own hero.
In the moments you feel alone, stressed and as if the world is coming to an end there’s only one thing to do. Take a deep breath, attempt to relax but most importantly, listen.
When I’m in the middle of a crisis, faced with uncertainty and life altering decisions, I attempt to fix it all myself like a frantic chicken with its head cut off.
But I’ve come to realize, sometimes there is no choice but to fall back on my support system. As stubborn as I am and hate to admit it, I can’t always be my own hero.
So, I’ve tried to teach myself this new thing called listening. Forget what’s going on, drop the ego and simply listen.
Through the highs and lows, the people I truly trust have stuck with me through it all. From breakups to moments of weakness, to crazy ideas and making out-of-this-world decisions – they were there to show me that it all might just be OK.
These people gave me a sense of peace in the midst of madness.
Support systems are there to show you how bad days and unfair moments can be turned into something beautiful. How the unwanted outcomes can lead to something even better.
Whether it is your family, friends, prayers or the random person you meet on the street, take a moment to just listen to what they have to say. Listen in the midst of your stressful breakdown; they might just have the answer to your burning questions and current dilemma.
Pause and take a moment to look around for a sign of hope instead of overthinking every possible moment that could happen next – you never know what you could learn.
As an impulse, and sometimes irresponsible, decision maker I have learned how to slow down and take advice from the people who make up my support system circle. When I don’t listen to wisdom from others, I tend to find myself back in that frantic state, asking for their advice all over again.
Stop the cycle.
Whether it is about a decision or a bad day, hear to what they have to say. The people who support you and care for you will give you genuine ideas and realistic outlooks that you probably would have never found out by yourself.
They are your support system for a reason, simply listen.
