For most travelers, location is at the top of the list when choosing a hotel. When in Rome, I can’t stress enough how important this is because it is such a large city.

Retrome is the perfect place for when you are looking for a not-so-basic, convenient location and freedom-filled vacation.

Your hotel room is a block away from the Colosseum, easy walking distance from the red and blue train lines and is a few steps away from one of our favorite gelato stores on the corner. I definitely hit the jackpot with my stay at Retrome.

A welcoming staff member, Roberto, greeted me with refreshments and a total run-down of places to see and avoid in the city. Retrome created a visual map that helps their guests find the location of food, drinks, banks, supermarkets and everything else you’ll need during your stay. As I always say, locals know best!

The Layout

This hotel doesn’t joke around when it comes to retro. The decor, the appliances, the furniture and even the floor brought you back to a completely different era.

Retrome was rad.

The minute you walk into the reception, you see the bright colors and one-of-a-kind patterns. I was instantly jealous of their vintage finds.

In my Double Vintage Room, I had a smart TV, spacious bed, full bathroom and urban view. The smart TV was a really cool feature because it was the first time in over a month that I had heard any English on a television. There was also a cute terrace down the hall for me to enjoy my morning cup of coffee.

The Food

Retrome doesn’t have in-house breakfast, but they do have a kitchen for each floor that provides silverware, coffee, tea and even a box of snacks in your room. They also have teamed up with a local restaurant down the road that hotel guests are able to eat free breakfast.

I swung by the supermarket Retrome suggested and found some healthy food to snack on – it was all we needed after eating gelato twice right down the street from the hotel.

My Suggestions

Go see the Colosseum. It is a three minute walk from Retrome and is an essential piece of the city to see. The Colosseum is also right next to the Roman Forum – you can spend an entire afternoon in this beautiful area. After you explore there, Retrome is also an easy walk to the subway. This makes it easy to get to other must-sees like the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Go to Mama Frites – as if you’re surprised. Each time I was in town, I must stop by and see my favorite foodies. This time, I tried something new outside of my usual Nutella pizza. My goal is to try everything on the menu and I have yet to be disappointed. After my last visit, I highly recommend the chicken strips, fries and croquette.

Find the shopping. Rome is filled with three-level stores and selections. I spent an entire afternoon shopping around our favorite stores, like Zara, Lush and Brandy Melville. After we did some damage, we treated ourselves to some sweet treats.
